Giddings ISD has announced the hiring of an Interim Principal at the high school. John Schumacher, former superintendent at Gonzales ISD, has accepted the position. Schumacher served three years in Gonzales and three years previously as superintendent at Mason ISD. He will begin his 40th year in education as he starts the school year at GISD.
“I am very grateful for this opportunity, and so thankful that Mr. Dees reached out to me. I have been so impressed with the faculty and staff at GHS, but also with the leadership across the district. I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t believe in the vision that Superintendent Dees, his cabinet, and the school board have set in place.”
Schumacher’s experience includes 17 years of teaching and coaching, and 22 years in administration. “My experiences as teacher, coach, and administrator help me relate to students, staff, faculty, parents and the community as a whole. Those experiences also help me envision the best learning experiences for students, and that is the most important work we do.”
“The staff members that I have met so far,” continued Schumacher, “all understand that teaching is not just delivering content, but rather providing experiential learning. We need to deliver real life experiences for these young people to apply learning as they progress to become meaningful contributors to society.”
“I am so impressed with the staff,” he said, “I look forward to working with them, supporting them, and enhancing their experience this next school year.”
